The University of Queensland 3MT Competition

The University of Queensland (UQ) is the founding institution and home to the longest running 3MT competition in the world.

The first competition was held at UQ in 2008 with 160 higher degree by research students (HDR) competing.  In 2016, more than 230 HDR students competed in the UQ 3MT representing over 36 of the University's schools and institutes.

The UQ competition begins with school and institute heats, with the winner progressing to one of the seven faculty/institute finals.  The winner of each faculty/institute final then progresses to the UQ final.  The people's choice winner from each faculty/institute final has the opportunity to participate in the Wildcard competition of which the winner is offered a place in the UQ final as the Wildcard entrant.
